Enroll as a Transfer Student
You're admitted! Follow the steps below to become a Mountaineer.
Steps to Enrollment
Transfer Students
1. Log in to the WVU Portal
The WVU Portal accesses your WVU (MIX) email account, DegreeWorks, financial aid, and more. Academic advisers and units may use MIX email exclusively for communication.
To log in to the WVU Portal, you must first use Okta to activate your WVU Login. Okta activation instructions will be emailed within 2 hours of your WVU acceptance message. Always use the most recent activation email if you receive more than 1. Activation links expire after 90 days.
After activating your account, log in at WVU Portal.
Pro Tip: The WVU Portal is not the MyWVU application dashboard portal. The MyWVU portal is your dashboard related to the admissions application, including requests like changing your major or term, or canceling your WVU attendance.
2. Review your transfer credit evaluation
Upon your admission, your college transcripts are reviewed. In your WVU Portal, go to DegreeWorks to see your courses that already have equivalencies and courses that may need submitted for review. If you have NOEQs, submit a Transfer Equivalency Review Request for each course.
Please contact your academic adviser about your credit evaluation. The Office of the University Registrar may also send a credit evaluation to your MIX email.
3. Contact Your Adviser / Register for Class
To register for your first semester at WVU, you must meet with an academic adviser by email, phone, or in-person. Only your adviser can lift your registration hold. Contact the transfer academic adviser for your college/school or program to get started.
4. Submit the FAFSA
Our FAFSA priority deadline is March 1. We encourage all students to submit the FAFSA. Our school code is 003827. The FAFSA is required for Federal and State aid programs.
6. Pay the Academic Deposit
Students who plan to live in a WVU residence hall and/or participate in an Adventure WV Trip are required to pay the academic deposit.
The academic deposit is fully refundable if you submit the cancellation form by May 1 for students enrolling in the fall term and December 1 for students enrolling in the spring term.
7. Apply for Housing
If you are transferring fewer than 24 credits: Apply for housing in a residence hall. WVU has a First-Year Live On Requirement.
Transferring with 24 or more credits? You’re not required to live on campus and may choose from University Apartments, off-campus housing and residence halls.
Reminder: You must pay your academic deposit before applying for housing.
8. Choose a Dining Plan
Everyone living in campus housing is required to purchase an on-campus student dining plan. Commuters and those living off-campus have the option of purchasing an off-campus student plan.
9. Complete New Student Orientation
Learn about mandatory and optional components of Transfer NSO, including course registration and submitting a WVU ID photo.
10. Complete Health Insurance Waiver
All students enrolling in 6 or more credits are required to have health insurance coverage. You’ll be billed for the WVU student health insurance plan unless you opt out by completing the student health insurance waiver in June, just before the fall start.
11. Submit Your Final Transcript
When you complete all courses at your current college/university, request that your current registrar forward us an updated official transcript showing your final grades. The WVU Office of Admissions will accept official transcripts from your college registrar via Parchment, E-Scripts, National Clearing House, or officially sealed envelope mailed to:
Office of Admissions
West Virginia University
P.O. Box 6009
Morgantown, WV 26506-6009
Your college registrar may use also the following email address when sending official transcripts: scanning@mail.wvu.edu.
12. Pay Your Bill
Fall semester charges will be available in WVU MyAccount (via WVU Portal). If you owe a balance, you’ll receive a billing notification in your MIX email. Payment is due August 1.
Tuition payment plans are available to break up your semester’s tuition and fees into smaller, more manageable installments.
13. Move In
Welcome home! If you are living in a WVU residence hall, details for move-in will be sent to your MIX email. If you are living off-campus or in University Apartments, contact your property manager for move-in information.
