
Theatre, BA
The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre offers a broad-based program of study combining a liberal arts education with a general theatre curriculum. It is well-suited for students interested in multiple areas of study within the theatre discipline, such as stage management, directing, or producing.
The Theatre BA degree also meshes perfectly with minors, and especially double majors, which may increase interest from future graduate schools or employers.
An audition is not required for acceptance to the Theater BA program.

Fundamentals of Dance Techniques
DANC 100S
Studio class covering fundamental of dance techniques such as Ballet, Modern Dance, Jazz Dance, Tap, Ballroom, Partner dances, and other dance and movement vocabulary, such as folk and social dances.
Stagecraft and Stagecraft Lab
THET 103 & 104
Fundamentals of scenery construction and technical theatre through formal lecture. Requirements include assignments on running crews for Division productions.
Costuming and Costuming Lab
THET 105 & 106
Introduction to Stage Costuming through lecture and demonstration. Emphasis on the application of basic sewing skills and processes used in costume construction.
World Theatre and Drama
THET 170
Introduction to theatre and drama traditions in 10 world cultures. An intercultural study of theaters, performance and staging practices, the cultural milieu, and dramatic literature.
Fundamentals of Acting
THET 144S
An introduction to the fundamental techniques of acting with a focus on ensemble building, action, imagination, concentration of attention, and objectives. Course projects include structured improvisations and exercises leading to beginning scene study in Realism.
Directing
THET 302
Fundamental theory and practice of directing for live theatre with emphasis on script analysis, director-actor communication, ground plan, and composition.
Puppetry
THET 462S
Comprehensive study of puppetry as a theatrical form. Construction, manipulation, and production methods for adult and youth audiences are highlighted.
Honors

- West Virginia Public Theatre, a professional theatre operated through the College of Creative Arts, uses talents of both equity actors and our students.

Get involved outside the classroom.
The Evansdale Library is just a short walk from the Creative Arts Center and houses a script collection. Students can access industry specific journals and magazines to stay current on what is happening and what is about to happen in the world of theatre.
In their senior year, Theatre students choose an area of their senior level coursework in which they wish to complete a capstone project. Many will direct, stage manage, or dramaturg a show within the lab theatre or main stage season.
