In Multidisciplinary Media Studies, you’ll have the freedom to choose and explore different subjects that interest you. You will complete media core courses; general education courses like English, math, and science; general electives in any area across the University and courses in specific focus areas related to your interests.

Your Degree Plan

The Multidisciplinary Media Studies major allows you to build a customized course of study that aligns with your goals. Through hands-on courses, you will gain professional skills that are relevant to today’s (and tomorrow’s) media industry.
To graduate, all Multidisciplinary Media Studies majors must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0. Multidisciplinary Media Studies majors earn a Bachelor of Arts and complete:
- MDMS Focus Courses and Electives (33 credits)
- General Electives (31 credits)
- General Education Foundation Courses (23 credits), including English, math and sciences
- Media Core Classes (20 credits), including: Orientation Course, Media and Society, Media Writing, Media Tools and Applications, Introduction to Advertising and Public Relations, Media Ethics and Law, and MDMS Capstone
Advertising and Creativity
ADV 309
(Advertising minors only.) Examines advertising copy and design concepts. Students develop their own advertisements and learn to critically analyze existing ad campaigns.
Media Relations In Sport
JRL 361
Get an in-depth understanding of how effective public relations plays an integral role in any sports organization via a myriad of communication efforts used in the dissemination of information to the media and the public.
Feature Writing

Develop writing, and edit news features, personality profiles, color pieces, issue oriented articles, and human impact stories for news, public relations, and film.
Promotion for Entertainment Media
PR 431
Explore the foundations of entertainment promotion and the various opportunities and channels available.
Event Planning
PR 436
Learn the foundations of event planning including an examination of the uses and purposes of events to clients.
Social Media Strategy

This course examines how social media channels can be utilized to meet the goals of corporate, non-profit, political, and issue based outreach messaging.

Multidisciplinary Media Studies Accelerated BA/MS
The accelerated program offers the option to earn a bachelor’s in Multidisciplinary Media Studies and a master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications in an accelerated time frame.
