Your Degree Plan
MIS students take the core business curriculum modeled on the interrelationships among the functional areas of business as they occur in the real world. Emphasis is on developing skills for effective teamwork, communication, and leadership, which are skills employers highly value.
In addition to the core classes, MIS majors must earn credit hours in required management courses and in required MIS electives. MIS courses include topics such as:

The Ethics of Information Technology
BETH 357
This course introduces students to the ethics of information technology. The course begins with a brief overview of major ethical theories, such as utilitarianism, deontology, and virtue ethics. Major topics in information technology ethics will be discussed. Since this is a cutting-edge field, topics will constantly be updated to reflect the dynamic information technology environment.
Network Security
MIST 356
This course focuses on the managerial and technical aspects of information security in networks. The course covers security issues in informations systems, information assurance management and policy, network security planning, technologies, implementation, and security strategy.
Honors

Get involved outside the classroom.
- MIS students are encouraged to participate in an internship after their 1st semester in the Chambers College. The College’s Center for Career Development uses its extensive network of firms and organizations to help students find the right internship.
- Students can participate in small business plan competitions and use the Encova Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship’s services.
- The MIS Association hosts professional and social programs. Outside speakers offer information and personal contacts that are very helpful in career development.
- As part of the capstone course, students complete detailed systems analysis and design projects, which are often shown to employers.
